"JOY" a Hanukkah wall hanging quilt

As a motivator to
"get sewing for the holidays"

Jaybird Quilts challenged us all with an online JOY table runner from her book Alphabet soup.It was just the push I needed to finally get started with this technique... here are the specifics:She actually shared to group members the 3 letter Pattern from her book (Which I have actually had... unused on my shelf for a few years)I followed instructions and cut each piece as directedand layed them out one letter at a time to sew together following directions Once all 3 blocks were completed, I added bordersThen I added batting, backing...and quilted on my Bernina 880Next I fully bound on my machine!A deep press, a sleeve, and it was ready to hang & post!

Thanks to the shares of another online motivational sew along by Jaybird Quilts,
I finally used patterns from my long
neglected Alphabet Soup Pattern Book.
Plan was to make a full alphabet stack
for first grandchild when I purchased book
a few years back… oh well,
this grandma has 3 now and it is
the first time I sewed anything from its pages. Easy peasy instructions,
Simple rotary ruler cuts,
and machine stitches.
I even gave it a Hanukkah flair in
celebration for this years overlap of the holidays! #jaybirdalphabet #jaybirdquilts #jaybirdjoy #robertkaufmanstarsoflightfabrics

As posted on FB:
Thank you ladies for another great
motivator to SEW. I love this book
and have neglected it a long time.
Thanks to the Jaybird Quilts Sew Along,
I am one step closer to prepping
 for the Holidays!
A few days later...
It was even posted on the Instagram wall
 of the pattern creator!

Moon Garden Denim Jacket

I decorated a denim jacket with

Tula Pinks newest embroidery designs

"Moon Garden"!

It's a spectacular collection

she created of florals mixed

with other nature-inspired elements!

Illustrated in Tula's signature style,

these colorful and detailed designs

added fashionable flair

to my denim jacket.

(Once I finally could make a

decision what went where!!!)

I used a strong based sticky back stabilizer

in the hoop and stuck the jacket atop.

I did my best to use colors recommended

 and then S-L-O-W-L-Y embroidered away!

I centered things and got started with

Moon Garden Flower 1

Then I slitherrrred along....
It was much trickier trying to figure out
where to put the serpent in place...
I kept moving jacket around hoop-
but could not get shoulder to lay out
 the way I wanted.
Eventually, I decided to go
with a wash away stabilizer-
and after I completed the embroidery...
I just sewed it in place with a zig zag.
Moon Garden Serpent
After I played around with snake
a bit for exact placement,
I sewed it in place.
Next I added the birds
along front opening...
(beneath the pockets)

Moon Garden Bird 2 & 3

I can hardly wait

to wear it to

International Quilt Festival

next week!!!
