Love to Sew in The Robyn's Nest

After 6 weeks of

ALL THINGS

in variation of Baptismal WHITE-

I awarded myself

with a free sew day.

I downloaded Sweet Peas

February K*I*S*S*.

This months project was a

2 block quickie wall hanging

to decorate my sewing space!

I made sure to use all those

neglected Tula Pink bright fabrics,

ribbons, and threads I had been craving.

And here it is completed!

Baptism Ensemble Complete!!!

I am officially done sewing
in white for the Baptism!!!
Bring on the brights!!!
But seriously,
It has been my privilege
to create every part
of their Baptism attire.
I just hope Mom & Dad
are happy with it
AND it all fits.
Momma is 33 weeks now...
She just needs to hang on...
Bibs & Burp Cloths

And here is the full ensemble...
Ready for their Baptism!

Update...
packing for Travel to SB and
my worries about luggage making it
safely were excessive.
To my relief- all made it without complication. Baptism morning I delivered
my heirlooms to church
and we were ready to dress the twins.
Deandra was very sweet
and thanked me for them.

Baptismal Bonnets

Wooohoooo!
I am officially done with
the Baptism sewing "musts".
Anything, else I create from
here on will be a plus...
but not a must.
I sewed simple slips
to go below their gowns...
Kept seams to a minimum.
But...
When it came time for bonnets-
I needed a break from
all the white on white!
I was reaching a point where
even the Olympic Games
and all their snow ventures
 were too much white!
So I created this "ribbon"
with the twins names
and yellow roses.
Hopefully, it will be OK for the baptism...
I sewed the strip I embroidered
 with their names to Entredeux
on both sides and then added
a 1 1/2" strip from the tops
to their dress bodices.

I needed to piece a total
panel size for 3 months
to measure 13" X 16".
Then I folded it in half
and sewed it down creating the bonnet,
leaving a seam in the back for ribbon.

I added 24" ribbons for neck ties
and sewed in place 8" in.
Then I created a "flower"
over the attachment spot.
Ribbon in back in threaded through seam & sewn a few stitches in center to stay put.
And here is how bonnet
will look worn...

Lace stitches to the top!

I spent a lot of time sewing
this week on the deeper details.
I needed to figure out a way
to line the bodice and
add finishing touches, like trim at collar.
I was determined to line the bodice
 and not have any seams
against the Baby's skin.
Hopefully, with some ribbons
bringing in the sleeves
and some buttons & button holes
still to be added,
the bodices are done!
Then it was back to the front of skirt...
I decided to go with solid white backing,
almost...
but that decision was short lived.
Next week I hope to finish
these gowns for my princesses...
Meanwhile...
32 weeks in wait

Creating Christening Dresses for Two

After weeks searching
through Pinterest for ideas
and over purchasing extravagance
courtesy of lockdown shopping...
I finally started creating
Baptismal Gowns for the twins!
My goal is to create 2 gowns
made especially for their
baptism that screams out:
Grandma Loves You
from every stitch!!!
I spent so much time gazing
through Pinterest for ideas,
linking to blogs for explanation,
and I even dug deep in to my sewing library.
To my shock- I rediscovered
a full collection of
autographed
Martha Pullen Heirloom Sewing books!!!
Sew,
White fabrics, lace ribbons, threads, &
stabilizer replenished-
it was time to jump in.
Martha's books share the most
beautiful Christening gowns and
I'd be thrilled to create any of them.
Alas, I am not a seamstress
and all look far too complicated.
So, eventually I settled on a simple
 internet freebie pattern and decided
to embellish the hell out of it!
My Babylock Elisimo
was about to get quite the workout.
For days, while I waiting for lace
to arrive I embroidered panel after panel.
Finally, all my lace arrived
over a few days of joyful deliveries
 and I got started piecing.
After 2 days- my bodice fronts were finished!
They will look like this when I cut them out
Next day, I started the puff sleeves.
(The part of the gown I worry most
about messing up when
I try to put it all together...)
I am real happy with how they look.
I will hand sew them in
when it is time and hope for the best.
Today I started on the front bottom.
I pieced the first 12 inches or sew today!
Homemade lace on my sewing machine,
purchased laces, & mixed fabrics.

Meanwhile,
SNOW DAY!!!!
