8 weeks later... dipping in to the CANDY DISH

8 weeks later...

Shoulder surgery recovery going slower than I'd like. But I am very grateful for the results. Rotary cutting has been a NO-NO and it took me until this week to finagle it. So my limited craft energy has been spent creating Christmas ornaments! I'll make a post ASAP. (Still need to take photographs)

Nebula Block of the Month will officially begin next week. I am now behind 3 projects in J2N. I have learned so much and am very grateful for all the skill sharpening focus achieved.

I was able to sew in half hour spurts this past week and finally caught up on CANDY DISH- PROJECT 5 (Weeks 9 & 10)

As always- her patterns are fantastic & the J2N support group lets me feel like I have a cheer squad.

I cheated and used Tula Pinks new LineWork fabrics
because I had a hexi stack of precuts
and for now- it was a huge help to have less to cut.
I really took full advantage of clip pins this project- and did it over several days to avoid over stressing my new bionic shoulder
My Babylock Elissimo does a great job with walking foot
Once pieced- Reality of how much must be trimmed sets in :(

I added a border- and quilted over next few days

I created an envelope backing to hold inner pillow

The ROCK CANDY Table topper... that went POOF

Continuing on my Journey to Nebula in weeks 7 & 8: the challenge is beginning to pick up its intensity. But the lessens shared by Jaybird Quilts & team support through the Journey to Nebula Facebook group have been perfect to get me through!
I decided to create a painters pallet and use a selection of mixed collections of Tula Pink fabrics.
Week7:J2N... Rotary cutting and mapping Rock Candy Table Topper layout for this weeks challenge! #journey2nebula #jaybirdquilts #rockcandytabletopper #tulapinkfabric

So proud of my open seams!

Ready for quilting!

I decided to create a pillow instead of table topper...
Week8:J2N... Creating “Rock Candy”... continuing on my Journey to Nebula
with Jaybird Quilts and the J2N Facebook gang. Alas... multi-week hiatus needed- but I’ll be back ASAP with bionic shoulder improvement! #journeytonebula #jaybirdquilts #rockcandyquilt #tulapinkfabric

Alas,
Surgery next week for my shoulder will force me to drop out of J2N for next several weeks.
Will play catch up ASAP...

The Jawbreaker!

Project  three on my Journey to Nebula was
The Jawbreaker!
I am so grateful for the team support and video lessons shared weekly by Jaybird Quilts.
She gives it her heart and
we are all learning so much!
I have opted to stick with Tulla's fabrics,
focusing on True colors,
so eventually I will have lots of bed fluff!
Her patterns are fantastic & easy to follow...
only real obstacle ever is... ME!
And with her video accompaniment
and FB group shares with team J2N,
the team support is empowering!

Her sidekick ruler is the key!
Project Week 1 is always spent prepping...

Week5:J2N... piecing jawbreaker triangles continued J2N challenge! #journey2nebula#jawbreakerquilt #jaybirdquilts#tulapinktruecolors

During the week I played around several times with varied layout ideas...

eventually time ran out & I settled on one...
watched second video and began to sew...
Once fully assembled, I squared off...
It was frustrating how much was cut away!

Week6:J2N... this pillow pattern certainly earned its name: “Jawbreaker”. Thanks again team J2N for the support! #journeytonebula #jawbreakerquilt#jaybirdquilts #truecolors

3/4 LUCKY CHARM

Thank you to Jaybird Quilts
for the team support and guidance through
Weeks 3 & 4 of Journey 2 Nebula.
These 2 weeks were spent creating the LUCKY CHARM pillow.
Week 1:
I successfully completed cutting out all my charms from True Colors fabrics by Tula Pink.

And then- I was surprised by DH with
plane tickets he bought at the last minute for a
trip to finally go see our grandson!!!
So, I quickly grabbed some Tula scraps
to create a special decorative headband
and triple layered mask for flight...
& was ready to go.
Flying during quarantine leaves a lot to be desired... but it is VERY worth the hugs awaiting. So we masked up... & dragged on.
After arrival we decontaminated-
and then our reward:
Meet Abraham Martin 4 Months Old!

Back in my quilting room-
I returned to my journey- week 4:
Our FB board is great for shared ideas and learnings. This week I picked up on the tip for using B&W to evaluate the real lay out....

Once layout decision was finalized... I began sewing one row at a time.
I used a fusible batting and old fabric for backing
Once quilted, I shaped edges and created a puffy border using 2" strips of batting
Then I clipped the topper, border, and backing ...
and completed sewing
